08.05.23 / Week 5 Name: ALYSSA AISYAH BINTI 'ARIEF NASRAN (0364017) Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Creative Media Digital Photography and Imaging (GCD61204) / Section 1 LECTURES Basic Photography Shooting Exposure Setting In this week's lecture, we learned about the basics in photography shooting Exposure: In photography, exposure is the amount of light which reaches your camera sensor or film. The main parts of the camera:  Fig 1.0 Camera Anatomy 1. Camera body: The camera body is a light proof box. Shutter Image sensor LCD screen 2. Camera lens: Aperture/Iris Fig 1.1 Exposure Triangle Iris Shutter Speed ISO There are only two camera settings that affect the actual “luminous exposure” of an image: shutter speed and aperture. The third setting, camera ISO, also affects the brightness of your photos. Iris: Iris/Aperture controls the flow of light entering the lens. It is measured by f-stops, indicated by sequence of f-number: f/1, f/1.4, f/2 , f/ 2.8, f/ 4, f/ 5.6, f/ 8, f/ 1

Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are powerful tools for non-destructive image editing, they allow you to make color and tonal adjustments without permanently altering the image's pixels and the flexibility of adjustment layers enables you to edit, discard, or restore adjustments at any point, enhancing your workflow efficiency. Understanding and utilizing adjustment layers is essential knowledge for working effectively in Photoshop. Basic Understanding of Adjustment Layer By adding an adjustment layer in Photoshop, a new layer is created on top of the image. Lasso Tool: Used to draw freehand selections to manually select specific areas of an image. Pen Tool: Allows the user to create paths and shapes which can be duplicated and manipulated to create complex selections, masks and objects. Layering: Gives the ability to work non-destructively by stacking images on top of other images without interacting and mixing the pixels of images. Tool Box: Where Photoshop holds the many tools we have to work with Marquee Selection Tools: The basic selection tool that can select Photoshop layers in

Focal Point: A key element to any good composition is a strong focal point, as it helps your viewers’ eyes naturally settle on the important pieces of your design first. Fig 1.0  Focal Point Scale & Hierarchy: Scale is often used to help communicate hierarchy by drawing attention toward and away from certain elements, thus signifying their importance to the communication. Fig 1.1 Scale & Hierarchy Balance The Elements: A good technique for mastering asymmetrical balance is to think of each element as having a ‘weight’ to it. Smaller objects might ‘weigh’ less than larger objects, and heavily textured elements might ‘weigh’ more than flatl
