REFLECTIONS
Experience
Although there were moments were I felt quite stressed due to the workload and struggle of having to juggle assignments back and forth, the module overall was very insightful as it contained lots of exercises and useful information from the lectures and tutorials about how to navigate and create digital design. There is much more technicality in the design process than I had previously thought which made me quite happy as I enjoy the more structured approach. Other than this, Mr Fauzi as a lecturer was very great and understanding as well as he considered the wellbeing of students before assignments but still made sure we were on track when checking in on our progression weekly for practical exercises which made my experience a much more pleasant one.
Observation
As I progressed throughout the weeks in this module, what I have noticed from myself is how particular I am about details and the quality of my work. There were many times I simply kept restarting an exercise or certain part in an assignment, quitting and opening back up photoshop, and endlessly tinkering with the settings for hours to get it 'just right'. Thus, through this realization I have learned to not pick apart my work and to be overly critical about it in its flaws, as when I had asked other people, they were non-existent, confirming that I had indeed been overthinking it. Although I will still be wanting to consider small details as I believe they make up the design as a whole, I slowly but surely am trying to learn to not be overly harsh on myself and instead adapt a reassuring tone when mistakes happen or some things don't go as planned.
Findings
The amount of work that goes into a single edit is impressive, there are many things to consider such as composition, balance, colours, white space, and more- yet even when some designers don't obey the rules, they are still able to produce great work- such is the case of the start of many art movements, thus I have learned sometimes, perhaps rules are meant to be broken, as they can lead to exciting results. Experimenting and exploration of the different techniques, settings, tools, and utilizations all open up an array of possibilities that seem endless with design. Furthermore, in both software's, Photoshop and After Effects have such a wide selection to explore and it is optimized in a way that is user friendly, with multiple ways to create one effect, I found that the provided tutorials as well as online ones really helped me a lot in my assignments as I kept referring back to them when I was stuck on a certain function/part I couldn't figure out. All in all, I am happy to have learned what I did in this module and plan to further explore both software's in the future.
