LECTURES

Week 1

As Merdeka landed on the day of our first class, there was none and class would only begin on the following week

Week 2

For this first class of Design Research Methodology, we had a briefing session where Dr. Jinchi and Dr Hayati provided a comprehensive overview of the module information and outlined the tasks for the upcoming 14 weeks. The focal point of today's session was to carefully consider the specialization we intend to major in as our research topic will be centered around it, and also guide us to choose a research topic that is aligned with our specific areas of interest within the field.

Other than this, we were taught about how to find/create a research problem, write a problem statement, and identify our research questions and objectives. This involved the careful articulation of a concise yet comprehensive statement into justifying why we would like to research our topic as it serves as the foundation for any research endeavor. Additionally, understanding how to craft a problem statement effectively involves not only recognizing the presence of research gaps but also formulating them in a meaningful and purposeful manner. Moreover, the session guided us in the development of research questions and objectives which entailed the exploration of deductive and inductive approaches, allowing us to choose a method that aligns with the nature of our research and overarching goals.

In the following weeks, no more lectures were conducted and instead we only had our progress reviewed and monitored.

PROJECT 1 & 2 - PROPOSAL & CRITICAL REVIEW

Research Proposal & Critical Review

Initially, I had wanted to do research of the use of colour in websites, however after some feedback from Dr Jinchi, I had realised I wanted to research on something different instead and decided to switch my topic according to her feedback as well in being more targeted and specific.

The topic I have decided to research is about the role of UI/UX in games. I have chosen this research topic as I've always found video game design in particular to be interesting- both are my hobbies as well; design and playing video games, and I had always wondered how specific design elements affect the player, or questioned why they were the way they were in their specific properties. I had wondered if it had more meaning to simply just looking visually pleasing, this intrigued me into looking more further into it and choosing it as my research topic as it allowed me to research in depth about something I am already interested in and like, and I figured doing research in something I already enjoy would keep me interested and engaged as well through the tasking moments.

FEEDBACK

Week 3

General Feedback: Be more specific and targeted in your research and ensure that you are able to clearly and definitively understand your research to be able to explain concisely.

Week 4

General Feedback: Improve the consistency of your writing especially when relating it to your research problem and be careful not to use generalizations that have nothing to do with the subject of your research.

Week 6

General Feedback: Ensure there are citations of APA format in each critical evaluation of the article and avoid writing in first person especially when including a fact in your assertion.

Specific Feedback: talk about what user experience is and choose what UI specifically. Also talk about how colour influences our decision making, pick 2/3 websites- study how colours are applied on them.

Week 7

General Feedback: Justify and explain the reason behind each question asked and ensure questions are relevant to the research questions and objectives

Specific Feedback: Detail your interview planning and mention the justifications on why your interview type was chosen, also put explain the relevancy and justification for why each participant was chosen. Additionally questions from the individual interview may be moved for questions in the focus group, and try not having too many questions. Lastly ensure citations are added where they are needed
