PROJECT 3: RESEARCH DESIGN - PRIMARY DATA

Research Design - Primary Data

For assignment 3 of Design Research Methodology, we are to conduct primary data collection to supplement our research and perform an analysis of the collected data. The type of data collection method we use was in our choice, as it is dependent on our research topic, problem, objectives, and questions. A few methods that were generally suggested were:
  • Questionnaires
  • Interviews
  • Focus Group
  • Observational
We were also informed about the difference between qualitative vs quantitative research and data. Qualitative research focuses on exploring subjective aspects using non-numerical data like text or observations, aiming to understand motivations and behaviors, while quantitative research, deals with numerical data, employing statistical analysis to draw objective conclusions about relationships between variables. Qualitative data is more rich and detailed, often analyzed thematically, while quantitative data is structured and allows for statistical comparisons.

As my research focused more towards exploring subjective aspects and aimed to understand motivations and behaviors, it was more qualitative in nature- thus I had chosen qualitative data collection methods. The 2 in particular being:
  • Interviews (Structured) with industry professionals
  • Focus Group

FEEDBACK

Week 9

General Feedback: When doing an interview with professionals in the field- use the email format given and do not use personal email to contact them, but your school email.

Specific Feedback: Try to get interviewees responses by the end of the week and format them neatly in the slides, make the text bigger and use more slides if necessary as to not have text congestion and so the text too small too read

Week 10

General Feedback: Ensure that there are no grammatical errors and that the introduction is sound and professional

Week 11

General Feedback: Separate and keep the most helpful and informative data to use in the research, unsatisfactory data may be omitted (such as ones that do not relevant answers)

Specific Feedback: Well done on getting responses back from interviews, make sure when it is put into the slides that the information is neatly organized. Everything else is ok, keep up the good work

Week 12

General Feedback: Find trends and differences in answers for data analysis

Specific Feedback: Continue in analyzing all the responses from individual interviews and focus group
